Types of Chemical Bonds
The most basic types of chemical bonds are
ionic chemical bonds and covalent chemical bonds. In school
chemistry, these two types of chemical bonds are most important
and will be tested. These types of chemical bonds are tow ways
in which atoms can be held together. However, there are more
kinds of chemical bonds which we will discuss below.
List of types of chemical bonds
Other main types of chemical bonds are
included in this list of different types of chemical bonds.
Atoms can also be held by various forces that hold the
particles together.
-
ionic chemical bonds
-
covalent chemical bonds
-
coordinate chemical bonds
-
hydrogen chemical bonds
-
dipole-dipole chemical bonds
-
metallic chemical bonds
Differences between types of chemical
bonds
The nature of the forces of attraction
between particles will have a considerable bearing on the
properties of the substance.
In any atom it is the electron in the
highest energy orbitals that are involved in the process of
chemical bonding and forming chemical bonds. These electrons
are sometimes called valency electrons.
The electron configurations are regarded as
particularly stable and are not easily broken down. The
electronic theory of chemical bonding states that , on bonding,
atoms attempt to achieve noble gas electronic
configurations.
