Basic forces

All nuclei except those of hydrogen atoms contain two or more protons. Because like charges repel, the electrical repulsion would cause the protons to fly apart if a stronger force did not keep them together in the nucleus.

The strong nuclear forces

The strong forces that keep protons from flying apart is called the strong nuclear force. Strong nuclear force acts between subatomic particles that are extremely close together as they are in the nucleus. At this small distance this force is stronger than the electrical force. so the nucleus holds together.

The weak nuclear forces

The weak force or weak nuclear force is weaker than the electronic force but stronger than gravity. We are aware of the weak nuclear forces' existence because the weak nuclear forces show themselves in certain types of radioactivity.
